Types of Fishing Trips We Offer in Seward
The Kenai River sustains multiple sportfish species across distinct seasonal windows. Drift boat fishing enables coverage of extensive river sections and access to water that bank anglers cannot reach. The following trip types are available when you book a Kenai River fishing guide through our service.
Sockeye salmon fishing. The Kenai sockeye runs rank among the largest in the world. The first run typically arrives mid-June, with the larger second run occurring from mid-July through August. Sockeye require a specific technique called the swing. We provide instruction until you execute it proficiently.
Rainbow trout fishing. The Kenai produces rainbow trout exceeding 30 inches with regularity. Fall fishing is particularly productive, as trout feed aggressively on salmon eggs following the spawning runs. We practice strict catch and release for rainbow trout to preserve this fishery.
Silver salmon fishing. Silver salmon, also known as coho, enter the system in late summer. They are known for aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights. Peak season runs from late August through September.
Dolly Varden char. Dolly Varden are available throughout the season and frequently feed alongside rainbow trout. They respond to various presentations and provide excellent table fare for those who wish to retain fish.
Pink salmon fishing. Pink salmon return to the Kenai in even-numbered years. They are abundant, aggressive, and well-suited for younger anglers or those seeking consistent action.
Ice fishing trips. During winter months, we offer guided ice fishing trips targeting rainbow trout and Dolly Varden on Kenai Peninsula lakes. This provides an alternative fishing experience during the off-season.
