Types of Guided Fishing Trips We Offer in Seward
Jason’s Guide Service runs several types of guided fishing trips for anglers based out of Seward. Trip selection depends on the season, the species active on the river, and what the angler hopes to bring home. Below are the trip types we guide most frequently.
Kenai River fishing. Our Kenai River trips depart from the Seward area for water near Cooper Landing, reached in under an hour by road. Fishing from a drift boat, we cover stretches of river that are difficult to reach on foot, following salmon and trout through the runs and holes where they hold, adjusting our position as the fish move through the day.
King salmon fishing. King salmon return to the Kenai Peninsula early in the summer, with hatchery-supported runs feeding both Resurrection Bay and the Kenai River. These are the largest salmon we target, and landing one takes patience along with the right technique, since kings tend to hold deep and fight hard once hooked.
Sockeye salmon fishing. Sockeye move through the Kenai River in dense numbers during the peak of summer. We fish for them using a swing presentation suited to their behavior in moving water, and the action can be nonstop once the run is in, making it one of our busiest trip types of the season.
Silver salmon fishing. Silver salmon arrive later in the season, typically running into September, and are known for aggressive strikes and hard fights. This is a popular trip for anglers who want a physical fight on the line and don’t mind cooler fall weather on the water.
Pink salmon fishing. Pink salmon return to the Kenai Peninsula in large numbers during odd-numbered years. The pace of the fishing makes these trips a strong option for beginners and for families fishing together for the first time, since strikes come often and the learning curve stays short.
Rainbow trout fly fishing. The Kenai River holds resident rainbow trout year-round, and we guide fly fishing trips for them outside the busiest stretches of the salmon season, when the trout respond well to smaller presentations and clearer water conditions make sight fishing possible.
Dolly Varden char fishing. Dolly Varden trail the salmon runs through the river system, feeding on drifting eggs behind spawning fish. We typically work char into a trip already targeting salmon rather than booking it as a separate outing, though dedicated char trips can be arranged on request.
Ice fishing. During the winter months, we guide ice fishing trips on stocked lakes on the Kenai Peninsula, targeting rainbow trout and landlocked salmon through the ice for anglers visiting outside the summer season and looking for a different kind of outing.
