What types of fishing trips do you offer?
We specialize in guided drift boat fishing trips on the Upper and Middle Kenai River, basing out of Cooper Landing. We offer half-day and full-day trips targeting rainbow trout, Dolly Varden char, sockeye(red),and coho(silver) salmon depending on the season.
What will we fish for?
Fishing opportunities vary by season:
- Rainbow Trout & Dolly Varden char: June through October (catch and release only) • Sockeye Salmon (Red): Mid-June to mid August
- Silver Salmon (Coho): Late August through October
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, all anglers 16 and older need a valid Alaska sport fishing license, which you can purchase online here. You do not need a king salmon stamp, kings have been closed on the Kenai River for 3 years in a row.
What’s included in the trip?
We provide:
- Drift boat and guide
- All fishing gear (rods, reels, tackle) All rods are Gloomis and the fly reels are Lamson and spinning reels Shimano.
- Waders, all waders are Gore Tex breathable waders (we will call the day before your trip to get your size ahead of time)
- Life jackets
- Instruction for all skill levels
- Low pressure fun environment to fish in
What should I bring?
We recommend:
- Weather-appropriate clothing (layers, rain jacket, hat)
- Polarized sunglasses
- Bring your own food and beverage
- Your fishing license (required)
Is it customary to tip your guide?
Yes the industry standard for tipping your guide on a fishing trip is 15-20%.
Do the guides fillet our salmon?
Yes the guides will fillet all your salmon, we will direct you to the best fish processor in your area for vacuum packing.
Do you offer catch-and-keep or catch-and-release?
We practice catch-and-release for all rainbow trout and Dolly Varden char. Depending on the season and regulations, salmon may be retained within legal limits. Your guide will provide guidance based on the current rules.
Can beginners book a trip?
Absolutely! We welcome anglers of all experience levels. Our guides love helping new anglers learn to fish. We provide a low pressure fun environment for anglers of all skill levels.
How many people can go on one boat?
Our drift boats can accommodate up to 5 anglers plus the guide. For comfort and optimal fishing experience, larger groups can be split between multiple boats. 5 anglers are restricted to shore fishing. Serious rainbow trout and Dolly Varden char anglers usually fish 1-3 people in a boat.
Will I be paired with other groups of anglers on my trip?
We do not mix groups. All of our trips are private tours and customized to your party’s wants and needs. We believe in quality over quantity.
Is it ok to bring kids on guided fishing trips?
Kids are welcome on our trips with a parent or guardian. The sockeye salmon fishing isn’t easy or doable for kids under 10 years old. The trout and char fishing is fun and easy for kids of all ages.
What’s your cancellation policy?
If you cancel outside of 30 days you get a full refund less credit card fees. If you cancel inside 30 days you do not get a refund unless we re book your trip. We try and rebook your trip if possible so we can fish.
Where do we meet?
We meet in Cooper Landing, and the exact meeting location will be confirmed the afternoon before your trip. Mile Marker 48, 55 or 75.5 Sterling highway are our usual meeting spots.
When is the best time to book?
Our season runs from mid-May through October, and popular dates fill quickly. We recommend booking early to secure your preferred dates.
