Fly Fishing Guide Cooper Landing, AK

If you’re planning an Alaska fishing trip, you’ll need a Cooper Landing, AK fly fishing guide you can trust. At Jason’s Guide Service, we’ve spent over 14 years fishing on the Kenai river. Over all that time, we’ve learned the best spots for sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, and more.

When you book Kenai River fishing guides, it’s important to get to know your team a little better. Read on to meet Jason and Joe, and contact us today to start planning your Alaskan fishing adventure.

Jason Lesmeister

Jason moved to Alaska at the age of 21. His goal was to become a fishing and hunting guide, and 31 years later, it’s clear that he achieved that goal with flying colors. Over the past three decades, he’s been guiding clients across the entire state – and over the past 14 years, he’s been on the Kenai fishing for trout and salmon.

There are only a handful of guides who are permitted to fish in the Kenai River. Jason has earned his place by providing excellent instruction for first timers who are learning to fish, and showing the more experienced anglers where they can catch their next trophies. In keeping with the rules of the river, Jason uses a custom drift boat for the 18-mile stretch of drift-only fishing on the Upper Kenai. He also provides gear such as rods reels, and waders.

The Kenai River is a beautiful stretch of water, and to handle more clients, it only made sense to bring on another fly fishing guide in Cooper Landing. That’s when Joe joined the team.

Joe Pote

Joe’s lifelong love of fishing brought him all the way over from Virginia. He traveled to Alaska back in 2021 to find work as a Cooper Landing fishing guide, and since 2023, he’s been working with Jason to provide an excellent Alaska fishing experience for newcomers and experienced anglers alike.

Since coming to Cooper Landing, Joe has become one of the most skilled drift boat guides on the river. He’s as happy behind a fly rod as he is behind spinning gear, and his lifetime of fishing experience makes him an ideal instructor for anyone learning to fish in Alaska. And if you’ve already done a bit of Kenai River fishing, he’ll provide the guidance you need to make your trip even better.

The Kenai River

Of course, we had to mention our favorite coworker. The Kenai River (pronounced KEEN-eye) stretches from Kenai Lake all the way to the Pacific Ocean at Cook Inlet. That’s 82 miles of prime fishing, with catches ranging from Dolly Varden char to sockeye salmon.

The first 18 miles of the Kenai river are managed by Alaska State Parks and the Kenai River National Wildlife Refuge. There are only 19 guide operations that have a competitive-use permit for the Upper Kenai River Refuge, and we’re one of them.
